UMPIRES RETURN TO AAA BASEBALL |
|
|
|
“Play Ball!” bellowed by the men in blue.
Those famous words are familiar to every baseball fan. Umpires bring
much of the color and spirit to America’s pastime. For sometime now,
that spirit has been gone from the AAA baseball program.
This year is different. The men in blue are really boys and girls,
from local junior high and high schools. For the past few years,
games have been umpired either by the coaches or by parent
volunteers. In order to free the coaches to coach and to bring back
some of the atmosphere of baseball, we have started the Student
Umpire Program. The student umpires have been carefully selected and
have spent a good deal of time training. When the season starts on
April 8th, they will be ready to go!
The success of this program depends on all of us making a commitment
to do our part and keep the games positive. We all need to keep the
games in perspective and remember that it’s about your child having
fun and learning about the great game of baseball. If you look at
the back of the umpire shirts, you will see that they boldly say
STUDENT UMPIRE. They will make mistakes. They are human and they are
youngsters doing their best. Please support the STUDENT UMPIRE
program by being role models of good sportsmanship. Thank you. |
